The extension of Elm Street and Bullpup Drive was designed to provide the students and citizens of Baldwin City a safe route between two of their early education centers. Schlagel & Associates, P.A. worked closely with Baldwin City USD#348, the City of Baldwin City and Douglas County on this project to ensure all goals for safety were met with the design. A portion of Bullpup Drive was widened to allow for on-street spillover parking while still allowing for bus drop-off for the Baldwin City Bulldogs varsity and junior varsity baseball and softball complex. Additionally, a trail was added in conjunction with KDOT’s “Safe Routes to School” initiative to provide for a contiguous walking path from the adjacent neighborhood to the schools.
