Baldwin City Bond Projects Under Construction
Schlagel & Associates is providing the Civil/Site Design services to Architecture firm DLR Group for these projects, for which ground was broken on this spring. Construction Manager-at-Risk was the project delivery method chosen, with Manning Construction providing the C.M. services.
The first project was an athletic facilities package comprised of a new six-lane running track, field events area, P.E. fields, and a varsity soccer field at the existing Junior High location and a 4-plex of varsity and junior varsity baseball and softball fields at the existing Intermediate Center location. The ball fields are on schedule to be open for use next season.
The second package includes a new 65,000 square foot Primary Center, which was divided into two packages: an early site grading/utilities package and a later building package. This has fast-tracked the project and saved months of construction time. Additionally, Schlagel & Associates is preparing street plans to connect Elm Street and Bullpup Drive which will provide safe transit for students and parents between the new Primary Center and the Intermediate Center/Baseball Softball complex. The Primary Center will be ready for school in August 2010.
The final package is a new Performing Arts Center addition that will connect the existing Junior and Senior High Schools. DLR group has aquired on behalf of the Distrcit a $3.4 million grant from FEMA, and will allow the structure to be constructed withstand the forces of an F-5 tornado.
Schlagel & Associates is proud to be a part of this high-profile project that will have a positive impact on the lives of the citizens and students of Baldwin City for years to come. To date, the first two projects are on schedule and $1.34 million under budget.
